Architecturally designed villas at Bethlehem Shores

31 March 2026

Today’s feature story is an amazing new building for retirees wanting amazing views of the Bay of Plenty in Tauranga. Delegates at our 2024 WoodWorks conference got to visit during the build to see the amazing views and the mass timber exposed at the time in late October.

WoodWorks Issue – 31 Mar 2026

Welcome

Good morning masstimberers – Today we bring you a stunning new home with fantastic views and a premium standard of building ably supported by mass timber. WoodWorks conference delegates visited this project in 2024 – yes it’s the wonderful Bethlehem Shores retirement complex and care facility.

Next up we share technical insights for managing moisture in mass timber builds and buildings. It’s applicable to all project professionals.

Engineering NZ has awarded their Francis Small Award to a most deserving Daniel Moroder, a most worthy recipient and mass timber advocate and expert known to us all for his energy, expertise and no-nonsense logic. “Congratulations Daniel!”

Finally, ‘one-for-the-engineers’ this time on fasteners and connections. Also we finish, as usual with a tickler for adding some humour to your Tuesday.
