Australia’s Largest Timber Multi-Storey Building Reaches Completion

Hines‘s T3 Collingwood project has achieved practical completion, marking a significant milestone in the country’s architectural landscape.

The 15-story timber tower, designed by Jackson Clements Burrows Architects (JCB) and built by Icon, is a groundbreaking example of sustainable design and is the largest multi-storey timber tower, in Australia.

T3 Collingwood is constructed predominantly of mass timber, which will reduce carbon emissions by 34% compared to standard concrete and steel construction. The building is also targeting a minimum of 5.5-star NABERS and 6-star Green Star ratings, demonstrating its commitment to environmental excellence.

Beyond its environmental benefits, T3 Collingwood is also designed to boost productivity and wellness. The building will feature state-of-the-art connectivity systems, collaborative working spaces, and wellness-inspired amenities.

T3 Collingwood is a testament to Hines’ innovative Timber, Transit, Technology (T3) approach, which replaces traditional structural systems with prefabricated solid wood systems. Hines has embraced mass timber as its preferred material, with the goal of achieving net-zero operational carbon in their building portfolio by 2040.

T3 Collingwood is the first Australian project in the T3 global portfolio, and it sets a new benchmark for sustainable office construction in the country. This groundbreaking project is a beacon of hope for a more sustainable future, and it is sure to inspire other developers and architects to follow suit.
