Is it just me or is mass timber seems to be moving ahead faster than in the past in North America. That said they don’t have to design for earthquakes across most of the continent. They also have a nice niche in these multi-residential units which must make up a greater proportion of housing than here in New Zealand or Australia. On top of that this producer, Intelligent City, seems to be good at pre fabricated modular construction as well.
At the other end of the scale our team came across this news item from CNN – can this be replicated outside of China … go figure?

WoodWorks Issue – 22 Jul 2025
Welcome
Greetings once again from your WoodWorks team. This week our first story is an analysis of the building sector from the highly-regarded economist Shamubeel Equab at Simplicity. Next, a long-anticipated and highly-regarded affordable housing project making full use of mass timber with a difference (in that it looks great) called ‘The Hive’ in downtown Vancouver. Continuing the theme of prefab and Canada, we have a modular building from Intelligent City and taking construction speed to the next level. Finally for today’s update we bring you a time lapse of a 10-Story building being built in just one day in China!
