At the heart of the Museum Street building is a large-scale base-isolated, mass timber structure, combining strength, resilience and a significantly lower embodied-carbon footprint. Construction technology and methodology have played a critical role. We started with a model-first approach, allowing us to virtually develop and test the methodology for building and lifting complex elements such as the 13 m long, 18.5 tonne timber H-frames. This required exemplar off-site fabrication by local kiwi contractors, precise installation, and careful sequencing that protects materials and improves efficiency on site.

Targeting a 6-Star Green Star rating, the project aligns with Parliament’s Future Accommodation Strategy and its carbon-zero goals.

Through innovation, cutting edge technology, and close collaboration with suppliers and designers, we have been able to make significant emissions reductions across concrete, steel and timber.

The team is making awesome progress, and we are on track to deliver this project which is set to push the benchmark for sustainable construction in Aotearoa​.
