Tāwhaki National Aerospace Centre

Tāwhaki National Aerospace Centre is a multi-use facility in one of the world’s best locations to take flight, launch, and discover new horizons. Located at Kaitorete on the east coast of the South Island.

Kaitorete has been identified as one of the world’s best locations for aerospace. The 25km-long, 3km-wide land ticks all the boxes for key technical aerospace and launch criteria and is well placed to provide access to desirable orbits.

Tāwhaki are focused on the hard and digital infrastructures required for leading-edge aerospace, space flight and launch activity. Ultimately, the Centre supports all aerospace endeavours from research and development through to full scale operations.

Techlam are proud to be collaborating on their newest structure at the development, the aircraft hangar.

Working alongside Tuatara Structures, PTL Structural & Fire, and more to enable a further step forward for the Tāwhaki team. Techlam provided prefabricated glulam portal frames & custom hardware, for the 600m2 hangar. With the portal beams 15m each creating a large open 30m clearspan space for aircraft storage.

Timber was chosen for its many design benefits, such as long spans, durability and most of all, sustainability.
