Construction at 211 High has wrapped and the new mass timber connectors were a huge success.
The feedback from the team on site was incredible:
- They are so easy to use. Just slide the column on and you’re done.
- Less propping needed, so the workspace has fewer trip hazards.
- Columns can be installed close to building edges without requiring scaffolding.
- They are fast and efficient, dramatically reducing build time.
The design started as a prototype in the workshop five years ago, and Hilti have developed it into a world-beating product that is changing mass timber construction.
Numerous projects around the world have signed up to use these new connectors – and currently new connector types are being developed.

WoodWorks Issue – 29 Jul 2025
Welcome
Greetings once again from your WoodWorks team. Our first story is from Christchurch where connector innovation on the 211 High Street project made construction safer and more efficient. Next, we have a 35 storey timber hotel planned for Adelaide inspired by the tactile experience of being in a wooden building.
From Canada construction of the PNE Amphitheatre in Vancouver is underway. The massive scale of this iconic outdoor facility is evident in the accompanying photos. The team at Sterling Structural shares their thoughts on how timber improves people’s wellbeing during construction and when using the building.
Finally from Perth, a 35-storey residential hybrid timber/concrete tower is planned which will preserve existing trees and feature a street level bushland to improve walkability.
The programme for the WoodWorks National Conference, being held in November, in Rotorua, is now live online.
